Description

BB-Hurricane Wax is made for decorative wax projects that need a higher melt point and firm structure. It is commonly used for hurricane candle shells and wax embeds, especially when the wax piece needs to hold its shape around heat or inside decorative candle designs.

This is not the same as a standard container wax or regular pillar candle wax. It is best for makers who understand mold work, embed making, cooling control, and formula testing.

Key Features
  • High-melt paraffin wax for hurricane shells and embeds
  • Semi-translucent finish for decorative wax effects
  • Firm structure for molded wax pieces
  • Useful for gel candle embeds
  • Helps embeds hold shape without bleeding easily
  • Better for specialty wax projects than basic container candles
How to Use
  1. Cut or break the slab wax into smaller pieces.
  2. Melt wax until fully liquid.
  3. Add dye if desired and stir until fully blended.
  4. Add fragrance oil only if your project requires it.
  5. Pour into a prepared mold for hurricane shells or embeds.
  6. Allow the wax to cool completely before unmolding.
  7. Test the finished piece in your final candle design before production.
Suggested starting point: melt until fully liquid and test pouring around 180°F. Mold size, room temperature, dye, and fragrance oil can change the final finish.
Fragrance & Wick Testing

BB-Hurricane Wax can typically hold an average fragrance load, with 6% as a common upper range. For many hurricane shells and embeds, fragrance may not be needed at all.

This wax is not primarily sold as a standard burn candle wax. If you plan to burn it directly as a pillar-style candle, full wick testing is required with your exact size, shape, dye, and fragrance load.

Do not treat this like GB 464, IGI 6006, BB-P55, or BB-C35. Hurricane wax is a specialty wax. Wrong use can give poor burn behavior, cracking, or unstable results.
Troubleshooting

Hurricane and embed projects are sensitive to mold temperature, pour temperature, cooling speed, dye amount, and fragrance load. Testing is required before making finished products for sale.

  • Cracking: Avoid cold molds, cold rooms, and rapid cooling.
  • Air bubbles: Pour slowly and avoid splashing wax against the mold wall.
  • Poor release: Let the wax cool completely before unmolding.
  • Cloudy finish: Test pour temperature and cooling speed.
  • Weak structure: Reduce fragrance load or test a different mold design.
  • Embed bleeding: Test the embed inside your final gel or candle system before selling.
Shipping & Storage

Store wax in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, moisture, and strong odors.

BB-Hurricane Wax comes in slab form. During hot-weather shipping, slab wax may soften slightly or show surface marks. This usually does not affect usability. Let the wax return to room temperature before cutting, weighing, or melting.

Q & A

What is hurricane wax used for?
Hurricane wax is mainly used for hurricane candle shells, decorative wax sleeves, and wax embeds for gel candles.

Is this a regular pillar wax?
No. It is a specialty high-melt paraffin wax. For standard scented pillar candles, BB-P55 or another pillar wax may be a better choice.

Can I use this wax for container candles?
No. This is not a container wax. For jars or tins, use a container wax such as GB 464, GB 444, GB 454, C-3, IGI 6006, BB-S10, or BB-C83.

Can I add fragrance oil?
Yes, but keep the load moderate. Up to 6% is a common working range. Many hurricane shells and embeds do not need fragrance oil.

Can I use this wax for gel candle embeds?
Yes, this is one of its main uses. Always test the embed with your exact gel wax, dye, fragrance, and design before selling.

Why is the wax semi-translucent?
The semi-translucent appearance helps create decorative effects for hurricane shells and embeds. Color and opacity will change with dye amount and mold thickness.

Is this beginner-friendly?
Not really. It is better for intermediate makers because hurricane shells and embeds require mold control, temperature testing, and project-specific testing.

Why did my hurricane shell crack?
Cracking is usually caused by cold molds, fast cooling, uneven wall thickness, or pouring conditions that do not match your mold and room temperature.
