Choosing a soy wax for a jar candle? Start with Golden Wax 464 if you want to compare glass appearance, or Golden Wax 444 if you want to test a higher-melt option. Both are container waxes, so neither is intended for a freestanding pillar candle.
| Wax | AAK drop point | Starting question |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Wax 464 | 113–119°F | How does it look against my jar? |
| Golden Wax 444 | 119–125°F | Do I prefer the higher-melt wax? |
Make one candle with each wax in identical candle-safe jars. Keep the fill weight, fragrance oil and percentage, dye, pour temperature, room conditions, and cooling location the same. Label the jars so you can compare the finished surfaces and any pull-away from the glass.
AAK lists approximately 175°F for melting and 135°F for pouring as starting guidance for both waxes, with a small temperature range around each figure. Adjust only after you have results from your first controlled batch.
After curing, select and burn-test a suitable wick for each formula through the full candle. A higher drop point does not guarantee safe hot-weather shipping; a lower one does not guarantee perfect glass adhesion. Choose from your own jar, fragrance, and burn results.
